Blue Ocean Monitoring team expands as demand for data monitoring platforms increase

By Eleanor McGillie

A GLOBAL oceanographic and environmental survey company is expanding its team at its UK headquarters to meet the increasing global demand for ocean data monitoring platforms.

Blue Ocean Monitoring, recent winner of the Emerging Exporter category at the prestigious Western Australian Industry Export Awards 2016, has appointed a new business development manager at its office in Southampton’s National Oceanography Centre (NOC).

Ramsay Lind, who is based at the NOC’s Marine Robotics Innovation Centre, will be enhancing Blue Ocean Monitoring’s efforts to provide existing and new clients with complete autonomous and traditional data solutions.

Ramsay, who studied an MSc in Physical Oceanography at the University of Southampton, is joining the growing team of metocean scientists and business leaders to expand Blue Ocean Monitoring’s operations in the UK and overseas.

Speaking about his appointment he said: “I’m delighted to join Blue Ocean Monitoring. With the world’s largest fleet of commercial gliders, and, complete focus on such a disruptive technology, I’m excited to learn more about current and potential applications for autonomous data collection. With the back-up of Blue Ocean Monitoring’s excellent technical team, I feel there is no better place to do this.

“After seven years at Nortek, and having headed up its UK branch for the last two years, I have an excellent understanding of the market and can put this to good use in helping expand Blue Ocean Monitoring’s operations in the UK and overseas.

“I look forward to the challenge and I look forward to building relationships with those interested in autonomous data solutions for their particular applications.  We are located in the new MARS facilities at the NOC.”

Keith Wallace, the Group Chief Commercial Officer, said the company is growing as the need for data monitoring is increasing and said the best team is in place to provide leading edge services to coastal and offshore industries.

He said: “With demand for ocean monitoring programs increasing, coupled with the increased awareness around autonomous platforms, Ramsay has come on board, to help and improve upon Blue Ocean’s efforts to provide our clients with complete autonomous or traditional data solutions.

“After seven years of working with Nortek and developing Nortek UK, Ramsay has gained extensive knowledge and understanding around marine and offshore industries. We look forward to him applying and developing this in advancing and streamlining Blue Ocean’s UK and European business activities.”
