Tonight, the Northern Executive of INTO held a special emergency session during which it declared INTO’s (Irish National Teachers’ Organisation) decision to urge all of its 6,647members to support an education system our children deserve and not one which the Executive determines it can afford.

Teachers’ union prepares for industrial action as 79% vote in favour of strike

After weeks of balloting the results have been counted. Teachers across Northern Ireland have opted for strike action.

Today John O’Dowd told the education committee that schools will likely see 500 job losses for teachers and 1,000 for non-teaching staff due to £28m cuts to his budget. INTO members say ‘enough is enough’ with 79 per cent opting for strike action on Friday, March 13. Here’s the full story:

The £1million bill of teacher suspensions is ‘grossly excessive’ says INTO

INTO, Irish National Teachers’ Organisation, will be announcing the results of a ballot tomorrow which will decide whether teachers have voted for industrial action.

Irish National Teachers’ Organisation (INTO) says budget cuts will have devastating effects on our community, economy and children’s education. It argues the £1million being spent on teacher suspensions for example is grossly over excessive. INTO says ‘enough is enough’.

INTO members say ‘dysfunctional’ educational system lacks value for teachers

The Education Minister, John O’Dowd, was guest speaker at the Northern Conference of INTO in Limavady last week where over 200 delegates gathered.

Markethill High School one of top three non-selective Controlled Schools in NI

Markethill High School has been ranked by the Irish News as one of the top three Controlled non selective schools in Northern Ireland in this year’s annual listings

The school, which offers pupils 27 GCSE subjects in-house, offers one of the strongest and broadest curricula for its pupils in the whole of Co Armagh. This year the school celebrated its highest ever pass rates in GSCE English, currently sitting at 19 per cent above the NI average.

The state-of-the art 2G synthetic hockey pitch will serve the High School pupils and the broader community for decades to come. The Under-16 boy’s team are Taylor Cup Champions and are celebrating being through to the semi-final of the prestigious Prior Shield. This pitch will be a huge push for school hockey.

MARKETHILL High School standards are raised again as its the first school to have ever been awarded with European excellence in Leuven in Belgium.

The award, presented at a Civic Reception during the annual European Studies Conference at the Institute of Ireland, was the result of a collaboration carried out by Class 10JC who teamed up with pupils in Dublin and Spain.
