Markethill High School praised by Education Minister as school of ‘very good practice’

Markethill High School is one of 11 schools in Northern Ireland which has successfully broken the link between social disadvantage and educational attainment.

The school’s principal, James Maxwell, joined the Education Minister John O’Dowd at a special reception in Newry for the 11 schools highlighted as examples of good practice in an Education and Training Inspectorate (ETI). The recognition by the Minister reflects the hard work carried out.

Amber Green celebrates solar as customers produce 1.5 megawatts of renewable power

The community in Northern Ireland who have installed an AmberGreen Energy solar pv system have collectively generated 1.5MW of renewable power in 12 months.

The company decided to throw a party at Northern Ireland’s largest Grade A listed building, Gosford Castle. Over 300 customers and their families came along to enjoy some AmberGreen Energy hospitality.

Zero carbon home attracts Italian students keen to learn about renewable technologies

Green Future NI built Northern Ireland’s first zero carbon house which was accredited by the governments, North and South of Ireland.

Since its official opening hoards of visitors have come to see how renewable technologies work together to create a home which is sustainable and only costs £300 per year to heat and light. The house in Co Armagh has been visited by politicians including Mark Durkan, Environment Minister.

It’s not every day a UK Minister picks up a story and talks about it in the House of Commons but this is exactly what happened with one of ours.

Minister Ed Vaizey was being quizzed by MPs on the status of broadband speeds in the UK. The Minister referred to our story stating he had read about Niddocks in Cornwall who said broadband speeds in Cornwall and faster than in the Silicon Valley. Broadband speeds in Cornwall are faster than some areas of the Silicon Valley – Niddocks

Two of the world’s leading online marketers say broadband speeds in Cornwall are faster than in some areas of the Silicon Valley.

Rob and Andrea Edlin of Niddocks were chosen out of 14,000 agencies worldwide to attend the Google Engage All-Stars Summit in California. They tested broadband speeds during their visit and compared them to Cornwall. The couple describe businesses in Cornwall as ‘worldwide digital leaders’.
