Baxters welcome Rick Stein’s Head Chef after the Loch Ness Celtic 7 Marathon Challenge

By Eleanor McGillie

Rick Stein’s Head Chef, Stephane Delourme was certainly was ready for a nutritional boost after completing the Baxters Loch Ness Marathon.

The marathon, which was the second last in the Celtic 7 Marathon Challenge, was in an atmospheric location and continues through breathtaking scenery, taking runners along the south-eastern shores of Loch Ness, across the River Ness, and into the centre of Inverness, capital city of the Highlands.

But what made Loch Ness different also was the fact there was the promise of a hot meal and entertainment at the finish line for Stephane and his running partner, Peter McGahan, at the Baxters Pasta Party and food fayre.

Speaking about the Baxters Loch Ness Marathon, Stephane said: “The race itself was great. The scenery was fantastic and yes, we knew there would be hot food at the end so the thought of joining the Baxters team certainly made me put an inch to my step.

“The food was delicious as you would expect and I particularly enjoyed tasting the new range of Beetroot juice. That was certainly a great way for us to refuel at the end of such a race. Thanks very much to the team at Baxters for looking after us.”

Heather Metcalfe, chief financial officer of Baxters, said: “We were delighted to welcome Stephane to the Baxters Food and Drink Fayre to help him refuel after such a fantastic effort in the marathon.

“We were particularly keen for him to try our new range of Beetroot Juice. It was very popular with all runners over the course of the event weekend, perhaps because many athletes believe in its ability to enhance performance. Stephane certainly seemed to enjoy it.

“We hope it will help his recovery as he and Peter continue their amazing challenge, raising thousands of pounds for good causes along the way.”

The marathons may now be over but the fundraising effort continues.

The final big fundraising effort takes place on November 15 when Andy Appleton, Head Chef at Fifteen Cornwall, Jamie Porter, Head Chef at St Moritz Hotel, Stephane Delourme, Head Chef at Stein’s Seafood Restaurant and Stuart Pate, Executive Pastry Chef at Stein’s Seafood Restaurant will be cooking up a treat at a gala night in the Eden Project.

Tickets cost £55 per person or £550 for a table of 10. To book tickets search Celtic 7 Marathon Challenge on Eventbrite at www.eventbrite.co.uk.
