Josette Campbell, a care assistant with Homecare Independent Living, is delighted and honoured to receive the ‘Domiciliary Carer’ award at the recent Independent Health Care Providers (IHCP) gala night at the Ramada Hotel, Shaw’s Bridge.
Josette, who delivers care in the home for clients in the Newtownabbey area, said winning the award reflects the sterling work which is carried out in the community by the whole team at Homecare Independent Living.
She said: “My job is so rewarding. I was delighted to be nominated for the award but it left me speechless when I won.
“It is a privilege to be able to go out into the community and care for the vulnerable. People want to live at home and be near their loved ones so it is a pleasure to care for our clients knowing that we are making a difference for them and their families.
Stuart Castles, office manager, nominated Josette for her sensitivity towards a client in the days before he passed away.
Stuart said: “I had an extremely touching conversation with a widow whose husband was a palliative client of Homecare. The client’s wife asked me to pass on her sincere thanks for the care that our staff gave her husband in the days before he was admitted to hospital where he passed away, especially Josette as she was his main carer.
“Josette was concerned about the client’s very poor health so she called the office and asked for permission to sit overnight with him. Josette told us that she did not want his wife to be alone if her husband passed away during the night.”
Mairead Mackle, Chief Executive of Homecare Independent Living, praised Josette and the team for their caring and sensitive management in this case.
She said: “This award is a true reflection on the caring nature of the team at Homecare Independent Living. Josette truly deserves this recognition and it demonstrates the vital role of care assistants in the community.
“Congratulations goes out to Josette and the team who carry out their work with our iCare values at the forefront of everything they do – integrity, commitment, accountability, respect and enthusiasm.”
